Job Description

Job Summary:

The DMC Technical Operations Lead is a Level III management position in the Space Systems Operations Branch that oversees the daily, planned, and forecasted technical support of payload support systems and facility class payloads for the contractor DMC Team. This management is done both technically and administratively. Listed below are the knowledges and tasks in each area for which the DMC Technical Operations Lead will take responsibility. This list is not all-inclusive, but highlights the primary expectations.

Technical :

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead requires a thorough knowledge of the DMC operations concepts, procedures, systems capabilities and realtime payload operations.

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the work of the DMC Specialist Groups’ (i.e., Data Specialists, Network Specialists, Video Specialists) as they support their assigned areas and in providing guidance and assistance in these areas, as required.

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead must maintain an in-depth knowledge of the onboard C&DH and C&T system components for which the DMC team is responsible for configuring and managing. This position also requires good systems engineering skills in order to help assist the Specialists with resolving anomalies that occur during realtime operations and to assess new capabilities that are being implemented.

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead will interface with Space Systems Operations (SSO) NASA and Contractor Management, and the MOI contract Program Manager. Additionally, the DMC Technical Operations Lead may be called upon to participate in Tiger Teams and Special Study groups that may be assembled requiring DMC representation.

Administrative :

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead serves as the first-line supervisor for the DMC Specialists, which requires performing employee annual merit reviews.

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead also participates in various status meetings, including the weekly SSO Team Lead meeting and Payload Operations Integration Function (POIF) management team meeting, as required.

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead provides monthly inputs to the SSO Level II manager that are used in the Program Management Reviews (PMRs). In this administrative role, the DMC Technical Operations Lead interfaces primarily with the SSO Contractor Level II Manager.

  • The DMC Technical Operations Lead will also be an authorized approver of timesheets for those team members assigned to the DMC Specialist Groups.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word software.

Other Essential Duties

  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen

  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)

Other Qualifications

  • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
