Job Description

Summary

This position is responsible for providing technical leadership in customer discovery, technology innovation, and system architectural development which then maps to product design requirements. Applies principles and techniques of mechanical engineering to accomplish goals. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Will be responsible for mechanical design implementation, integration and test in support of successful system solution validation and product introduction to the marketplace. Works in a cross-functional team environment requiring good communication skills; will serve as a mentor to junior engineers and may have a supervisory role. Drawing upon design experience, this role will provide guidance on project development timelines, resource loading and best practices for developing a quality solution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of mechanical parts, components, or structural components for hardware systems which also includes various electronic devices as needed to meet customer expectations

  • Develops test strategies, devices, and systems

  • Plans and implements research methodology and procedures to apply principles of mechanical theory to engineering projects

  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results

  • Performs stress and performance tests on a variety of mechanical hardware including motor, drive trains, and actuators

  • Operates computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks

  • Prepares and studies technical drawings, specifications of mechanical systems, to ensure conformity to standards and customer requirements

  • Generates architecture for functional components and assists with product architecture

  • Delivers hardware designs through prototype, beta, and production release in compliance with product development process and quality practices

  • Supports existing products by troubleshooting and failure analysis

  • Participates in technical design reviews of existing designs and peer reviews

  • Compiles data and writes reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects

  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, and charts

  • Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues

  • Maintains awareness and understanding of advanced technology and its applicability to company products

  • Develops statement of work, prepares related schedules for broad set of engineering activities within discipline or related discipline

  • Develops budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs

  • Briefs others on deliverables, status and progress

  • Works evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 5+ years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with the following is desired: Working with regulated products that comply to local or international standards. Designing and developing complex mechanical systems that include mechanical components controlled by analog, digital and microprocessor circuits. Mechanical noise mitigation. Designing for intrinsic safety will be needed for some projects.
