We are Teledyne Energetics UK, part of the wider Teledyne UK group, who have been designing and developing solutions for the safety, arming, and initiation technology sector since 1984.

What you’ll be involved in:

You will be part of the multidisciplinary team working at the forefront of development projects, providing your Mechanical Design knowledge in aiding the business to develop safety critical designs of new products, alongside analysis of various elements within the existing products, such as material change impact, supplier tolerances, requirements change etc

The Mechanical Development Engineer will be expected to keep abreast of the latest manufacturing techniques and liaise with suppliers to ensure their proposed designs can be manufactured cost effectively.

Some aspects for the role will include:

  • Work with a multi-functional team to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for new and existing high reliability safety critical products

  • Provide informed design decisions supported by understanding of modern manufacturing techniques and tolerancing as well as product environmental requirements.

  • Working with sales and development teams to understand new requirements to enable future customer bid work

  • Liaising with external and internal suppliers to ensure they’re application of materials and design requirements are within specification tolerances and design parameters

  • Taking part in design reviews, delivering and interpreting design requirements understanding and vision to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Input to the development and management of product data packs. Ensure clear and consistent standard of information.

What we’re looking for in you:

The successful candidate for this role will have general experience in all aspects of Mechanical design including;

  • Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Experience of using 3D design software – ideally AutoCAD Inventor

  • Experience of designing mechanical products with Design for Manufacture (DfM) at the forefront

  • Experience of design to component level

  • Exposure to Safety Critical design requirements would be beneficial but not essential

  • Exposure or ability to communicate with external customers and suppliers

  • An understand of FEA and associated software packages would be of benefit

  • Adaptable, with good attention to detail and quality mind-set.

  • Computer literate, using MS platforms such as Excel, Word, Outlook.

  • Ability to manage own time and workload.

Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to gain full UK Security Clearance once in the business.
