Job Description

Job Summary:

As the Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing Engineer, optimizes and develops processes to manufacture materials for use in additive applications that must meet specialized design and performance specifications. Develops new applications for additively manufactured materials. Works under general supervision. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Evaluates technical specifications and economic factors, recommending engineering and manufacturing actions for attainment of design objectives by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work on the design, specification, and documentation of materials used in additive manufacturing.

  • Plans and evaluates upcoming projects, consulting with other engineers and corporate executives as necessary.

  • Applies engineering and scientific principles in the design and execution of development projects.

  • Establishes and executes standards and methods for product performance evaluation.

  • Develops/ refines test methods to support new product development and standard product evaluations.

  • Prepares proposals and budgets and analyzes labor costs.

  • Plans and implements operations to develop material and fabrication procedures for new materials to fulfill product quality and performance standards.

  • Monitors material performance and confers with producers of materials during investigation and evaluation of materials suitable for specific product applications.

  • Reviews product failure data and interprets laboratory tests and analyses to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.

  • Strong hands-on ability and critical thinking skills.

  • Capable of balancing hands-on work (in the lab) and engineering work (at the desk).

  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Essential Duties : Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required. Follows classification and security procedures and guidance. Perform as a radiological worker and follow radiation contamination prevention procedures.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen

  • Specific knowledge of Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing equipment, processes, and technology.

  • Working knowledge of radioactive contamination prevention principles.

  • Working knowledge of metallic powder hazards and mitigation techniques.

  • Experience modeling and drafting in CAD preferred but not required.

Other Qualifications

  • Requires a Q clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

  • US Citizenship

  • Able to receive radiological worker training.

  • Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately +/-10_%.
