Job Description

Summary

Will be assigned engineering responsibility for specific product lines of high-power microwave amplifiers known as traveling wave tubes (TWTs). This responsibility extends from design and development through the product life cycle. For new products, the incumbent will ensure the project follows the established design develop process, perform the required design efforts, and properly document each stage in the process. They will use state-of-the-art design codes and methods to ensure a well-designed, robust, and reliable product is being transitioned to production. For TWTs in production, the incumbent will work in multi-disciplinary teams to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions, including any necessary design changes, to maintain high yield and production throughput.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for the design, performance, and manufacturability of assigned products.

  • Learn and use a suite of simulation codes to develop the electromagnetic design of new products or subassemblies and for continuous improvement of existing products.

  • Work with a multidiscipline group of engineers to ensure both the electrical and thermomechanical designs are robust.

  • Plan and execute engineering activities, including failure and root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions and product development in support of assigned projects. Report on these activities and effectively communicate status and next steps internally and to outside customers.

  • Ensure projects comply with corporate and government policies, adhere to established processes, and meet contractual requirements and performance specifications.

  • Work with other engineers across multiple disciplines, using rigorous processes to determine the cause of yield issues and implement necessary corrective actions to prevent issues from recurring.

  • Monitor product lines to identify areas for product improvement including increased performance margin, reliability, or ease of manufacture.

  • Must adhere to the established design development process

  • Provide technical input for proposals and other customer communications as needed.

  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

Master's degree (M.S.) from an accredited college or university in engineering, electrical preferred, or physics and 0-2 years of directly related experience, or a bachelor's degree (B.S.) and 2-5 years of directly related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be accepted.

Other desired Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen

  • Knowledge of HFSS, MAXWELL, and/or CST. Programming with Python or similar tool is a plus.

  • Microwave electronics

  • Power electronics

  • High vacuum processing and product design

  • High voltage practices and techniques

  • Microscopes/Automated inspection equipment

Other Qualifications

  • US Citizenship

  • Active government security clearance or the ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.

  • Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately 10%.

Salary Range:

$89,100.00-$120,230.000
